What question did the researchers ask?
The review assessed high-intensity focused electromagnetic body-contouring studies, with or without radiofrequency. Most protocols used four sessions over two to four weeks and follow-up of one to six months.
What did they actually find?
For abdominal treatment, reported averages included a 5.5 mm reduction in fat thickness, a 2 mm increase in muscle thickness and a 3 mm change in rectus separation. Satisfaction was usually high, although two studies found little or no benefit.
What should you keep in mind?
Some studies omitted important participant data or handling of missing results, and none reported weight change. Device contouring should therefore be presented as a local shape treatment, not weight loss, with modest and variable outcomes.
What does this mean for a Highfield consultation?
Reported changes are generally modest and study quality and industry involvement vary. We consider that finding alongside independent guidance, your medical history, examination and priorities. It can support a better-informed decision, but it cannot promise a personal result or decide whether treatment is suitable.
